Calling for a Royal Commission in Australia is not a procedural application – it is a political and strategic advocacy process.
A Royal Commission is formally established by the Governor-General (or a state Governor), but only on the advice of government. In practice, this means that sufficient political, public, and evidentiary pressure must build to make it unavoidable.
ARA continues to apply this pressure to all levels of government. We recently wrote to Dr Gordon Reid MP, Member for Robertson, who had spoken to an ARA Member, Phil Morgan, and expressed interest in hearing from mothers, fathers, and adult adopted people whose lives are affected by Adoption.

Get involved – write to your own local Member of Parliament and ask them to support a Royal Commission into Adoption in Australia.
